ABCTE Special Education Certification Practice Exam

Providing extra time to write assignments is an appropriate accommodation for a student diagnosed with dyspraxia. This condition can significantly impact fine motor skills and coordination, making tasks like writing more challenging. By allowing extra time, the student can complete assignments without added pressure, which can help reduce anxiety and improve the quality of their work.

This accommodation acknowledges the student's needs and helps them manage their difficulties with writing while still engaging with the curriculum. It promotes independence and supports learning while allowing the student to demonstrate their understanding of the material at a more comfortable pace.

Other strategies, such as oral assessments or group work, may not specifically address the individual's writing challenges. Eliminating writing tasks altogether could hinder the student's necessary skills development in language arts, and using only oral assessments does not provide a balanced approach for learning to write effectively.
